What are sciatica treatment options?

Bed rest has been traditionally advocated for the treatment of acute sciatica. But how useful is it?

To study the effectiveness of bed rest in patients with sciatica of sufficient severity to justify treatment with bed rest for two weeks, a research team in the Netherlands led by Dr. Patrick Vroomen randomly assigned 183 such patients to bed rest or, alternatively, to watchful waiting for this period.

To gauge the outcome, both primary and secondary measures were examined. The primary outcome measures were the global assessments of improvement after two and 12 weeks by the doctor and the patient. The secondary outcome measures were changes in functional status and in pain scores, absenteeism from work, and the need for surgical intervention. Neither the doctors who assessed the outcomes nor those involved in data entry and analysis were aware of the patients’ treatment assignments.

Who wants to suffer with sciatica for 12 weeks!

I think if this research team had discovered SCENAR the outcome of the trials would have been so different. At our Pain Relief Clinic we unfortunately see far too many sciatica patients; about 3 or 4 new ones every month. Once taught the correct sciatica techniques, a therapist can generally eliminate the condition in 3 or 4 sessions. We have achieved it in 2 and some cases have taken 5 or 6. One gentleman had been suffering for 7 years, surviving on prescription pain killers! Tried all the conventional therapies but none lasted – 4 treatments later he was skipping 🙂

I have suffered this inflicting condition, 14 years ago, before we had discovered SCENAR. I had 2 slipped disks and a trapped sciatic nerve – a week in hospital and five and a half months bed rest! Then followed a long series of physio before I was back to normal. 4 years later it started to reoccur after some heavy gardening. It was then after trying osteopath, chiropractor etc and no resolution we discovered a SCENAR practitioner and gave it a try. 4 sessions bought an amazing outcome, 2 more job done. Two weeks later we purchased a SCENAR Pro device and signed up for training. This was the foundation of what was to become our Pain Relief Clinic.

That above comment was in no way meant to be detrimental of osteopaths and chiropractors, it is a comment on how my body reacted to those treatments. Many osteopaths and chiropractors have trained in SCENAR and added it to their treatments with amazing effect.
